To best understand the ethical dilemmas that may arise in community prosecution, a brief examination of what constitutes an ethical prosecution function is in order. The conventional role of the prosecutor and the ethical principles that guide prosecutors in this traditional role are con- sidered first. Challenges to these ethical principles that emerge in the evolving community-based prosecution role are then discussed. (palabras claves: persecución penal inteligente, investigación penal, ministerio público, comunidad, ética)
