The purpose of this conference is for legal educators to begin to respond to the phenomenon referred to as “globalization” by examining ways in which law schools in different countries can cooperate effectively. In so doing, we should also keep in mind the cultural background against which cooperative ventures will take place. Legal systems (and the institutions and doctrines that comprise them) are deeply imbedded in national and local cultures that vary greatly according to history and geography.
