Abstract

The criminal justice system for young persons mustbe separate from that of adults and emphasize thefollowing: the rehabilitation and reintegration,fair and proportionate accountability that isconsistent with the greater dependency of youngpersons and their reduced level of maturity,enhanced procedural protection to ensure thatyoung persons are treated fairly and that theirrights, including their right to privacy, areprotected, timely intervention that reinforces the linkbetween the offending behaviour and itsconsequences.
