dc.description.abstract The struggle for judicial independence in Latin America remains an ongoing process, but important developments have taken place in recent years. With theexception of Costa Rica, all the countries included in this study have recently undergonea process of democratic transition after the end of authoritarian rule or, in the case of ElSalvador and Guatemala, following an internal armed conflict.
