This report on Access to Justice and Independence of the Judiciary in Canada is one part of a 34-month, hemispheric-wide analysis of how well national governments in the Americas are complying with the commitments to strengthen democracy made at the 2001 Summit of the Americas in Quebec City.Based on the opinion of experts in the field and secondary research, this report reviews the status of access and independence issues in Canada, looking specifically at:a) Citizens ability to access a fair, equitable and efficient justice system;b) The independence of the judiciary to make fair and impartial judgments without interference or pressure from outside pressures. |
